Embracing the Autumn Equinox: A Time to Reflect, Release, and Receive

There’s always been a quiet stirring inside me as the seasons shift toward autumn. As the equinox approaches, I feel a natural pull to walk in nature, to pause, and to reflect — on the year, on the years past, and on the journey ahead. Who am I becoming? What am I ready to release? What am I ready to welcome?

In recent years, as I dive more deeply into my spiritual path, I’ve become more conscious of the cycles of letting go and letting in. Life moves fast, full of distractions and rushing, yet this time of year reminds us that we are still connected to nature — to the rhythms of planting, growth, harvest, and rest. Traditionally, equinox celebrations marked the end of the harvest, a time to honor the fruits of our labor and prepare for winter’s quiet reflection.

Even in our modern lives, we are guided by these natural rhythms. The equinox invites us to pause and reflect: what nourishes our soul? What gives us life? And what must fall away so we can thrive in mind, body, and spirit?

For me, this reflection often comes as a gentle year-in-review, a practice I began noticing especially around eclipse season before the equinox. Old patterns and fears arise, showing themselves not to scare us but to teach us. Letting go is sometimes easier than we imagine — like trying to hold back a river, we cannot stop its flow. Yet if we allow ourselves to release, there is space for beauty, growth, and new opportunities.

The shifting seasons can also illuminate our shadow selves. Our shadow is not something to fear — it is a part of us that seeks love and compassion. Our wounds carry lessons, and often these lessons are directly connected to the gifts we have to offer the world. As we acknowledge and embrace this, we align more fully with our purpose.

This autumn, I invite you to celebrate the season:

  • Reflect on all you have learned this year.
  • Pray, meditate, or connect with your inner guidance — remember, you are not alone.
  • Write a letter to yourself as you would to the person you love most, with gentleness and care.
  • Breathe in the crisp fall air, watch the leaves turn, and honor the natural transitions around you.
  • Gather with loved ones, your community, or simply with yourself.

The equinox reminds us that life is cyclical: letting go, receiving, releasing, and stepping into new growth. Our ancestors watch over us, the Earth continues its rhythm, and we are here to live fully, intentionally, and with love.

May this autumn be one of reflection, transformation, and celebration.
